Pauline V. Beale, O.D.

Dr. Beale has been practicing in Lewiston since 1970 with a special emphasis on Low Vision Rehabilitation. She is a graduate of Regis College and the New England College of Optometry. She is certified by the Low Vision Section of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is past president of the Maine Optometric Association and the Maine Board of Optometry. Dr. Beale has given extensive lectures in Low Vision Rehabilitation in the United States and Canada. She has been affiliated with the Maine Center for the Blind, Statewide Diabetic Eye Disease Prevention Program, and The Advisory Eye Committee for Maine Motor Vehicle Department.

Douglas J. Henry, O.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Henry joined Optometric Associates in 1999, practicing with emphasis on contact lenses, glaucoma, ocular disease, and primary care. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Illinois and earned his Ph.D. in Neurobiology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. As a neuroscientist, he authored fifteen (15) research articles and book chapters while earning several teaching awards.

Dr. Henry earned his doctorate in optometry at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, where he graduated with academic honors. His internship at the Veterans Affairs Clinic in Boston provided him with extensive training in treating glaucoma and cataracts, as well as managing the ocular complications from diabetes and high blood pressure. At the Lahey Clinic Hospital in Massachusetts, Dr. Henry gained experience in comanaging laser refractive surgery and cataract surgery.

Stephen L. Ebersole, O.D.

Stephen L. Ebersole, O.D., joined Optometric Associates in August of 2007.

Dr. Ebersole has been practicing optometry since 1998 with special emphasis on early detection of potential eye and vision problems in infants and children. He also provides comprehensive optometric services to adults; including fitting of specialty contact lenses and co-management of cataract, refractive, and glaucoma surgeries. Dr. Ebersole is a graduate of the University of Delaware where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology. Dr. Ebersole earned his doctorate of optometry at The Ohio State University, where he was a Beta Sigma Kappa honor student and class President for four years. After graduating he went on to complete a residency program centered on the diagnosis and management of common ocular diseases such as: glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.

Dr. Ebersole served on the Maine Optometric Associations Board of Directors where he was instrumental in bringing the InfantSee™ program to Maine. The InfantSee™ program is a public health program developed to provide professional eye care for infants nationwide. Through InfantSee™, optometrists provide a one-time, comprehensive eye assessment to infants in their first year of life, offering early detection of potential eye and vision problems. Dr. Ebersole has participated in various school-screening programs to prevent at risk children from developing amblyopia and has given public seminars on children's vision, refractive surgery, glaucoma and diabetic eye disease.
